What is Avodart (Dutasteride) used for?
Patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) take Avodart (Dutasteride) to treat symptoms of an enlarged prostate gland. As a result, the prostate becomes smaller. A wide range of symptoms associated with BPH can be relieved by this treatment. These include difficulty starting the flow of urine, weak streams, and frequent urination (including in the middle of the night). In addition to reducing the need for surgery for BPH, it may also reduce the need for radiation therapy. This is not approved to prevent prostate cancer.
