Xarelto (Rivaroxaban) FAQs

How does Xarelto work?

It prevents certain proteins from forming blood clots. It is considered an anticoagulant or blood thinner.

How do you use Xarelto?

Xarelto is taken orally as often as prescribed by your doctor. The typical dose is once a day. Your dose may vary based on why you are taking it and your history of treatment.

Do not take this more or less often than instructed as you may not get the most benefit from treatment with Xarelto. If you stop taking Xarelto early, it can lead to blood clots forming again. Your doctor will let you know when or if you need to stop taking it.

If you have difficulty swallowing the tablets whole you can crush the tablets and eat them with applesauce. You should consume it immediately. Do not prepare the mixture ahead of time.

If you miss a dose you can take it when you remember. If it's almost time for your next dose, you can skip the missed dose and take your dose at the regularly scheduled time.
