What is Zocor (Simvastatin) used for?

The use of Zocor (Simvastatin) and a proper diet will lower the amount of "bad" cholesterol and fats (such as LDL, triglycerides) in the bloodstream and raise the amount of "good" cholesterol (HDL). This drug belongs to the statin class of drugs. Uncontrolled high cholesterol can increase your risk of heart attack or stroke. It reduces liver cholesterol production. Cardiovascular disease is reduced when "bad" cholesterol and triglycerides are lower and "good" cholesterol is raised. Exercising, losing weight if overweight, and quitting smoking may help this medication work long term, in addition to eating a proper diet (such as a low cholesterol/low-fat diet).
